If you received a pink form at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, under 221(g) visa refusal for the U.S., you can check the status of your case online. You will be given a reference ID to track the details of the case online.
The case status report is updated twice a week. Due to circumstances beyond their control, the case status report may not be updated every Tuesday and Friday. Do not contact the Embassy, as there is no reason for concern.
You are requested to wait until the Embassy contacts you. Please don’t make an appointment. Your case requires further administrative processing, and the Embassy will contact you once this has been completed.
Interpreting the Case Status Report
Find your BATCH ID in the case status report and note the case STATUS. There are only three case status remarks: PENDING PROCESS, CONTACT EMBASSY, and SEND PPT. Please follow the appropriate instructions. These are general guidelines. Please note that you need to submit your passports and all other additional documents as specified or necessary.
PENDING PROCESS
Your case is still pending administrative processing. The Embassy cannot issue the visa prior to completing the administrative processing. The Embassy cannot waive administrative processing for any applicant. This is not a matter of missing documents and is in no way related to the number of times an individual has obtained visas or entered the U.S. in the past. If your case is “Pending Process,” please do not contact the Embassy or you may risk delaying the administrative processing of your visa.
CONTACT EMBASSY
Your case has been processed, and the Embassy needs additional information from you to process the case to completion. Please email the Embassy and request the list of documents you must submit. In the subject line of your email, state your BATCH ID and then write “Contact Embassy.”
SEND PPT (PASSPORT)
You are required to submit the documents listed in the Embassy’s response to your email. You can submit them in either of the two ways described below:
- Submit your passport and any other requested documents at the Embassy. Visit the Embassy on any business day between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., and bring your original pink 221(g) handout and document pack. Proceed to Window 5 of the Consular Section and submit your documents.
Note: If you are asked to send a travel itinerary with your passport, attach proof that your travel plans are still valid and necessary. - Submit your document pack at a Visa Application Center. You can do this in person, through a third party, or by mail. VFS will return your documents by courier.
When you create your document pack, mark all documents “Attention: U.S. Embassy – Administrative Processing” and include in your pack a demand draft to pay the specified service charge per passport (inclusive of service tax).
If you want to submit your document pack to CGI in person or use a third party to do so, the original pink 221(g) handout must be shown to CGI staff. If you want to submit your document pack by mail, a copy of the original pink 221(g) handout must be included in your document pack.

Students & Scholars – Further Instructions
- If you are a student applying for an F-1 visa, submit a Form I-20 with a valid reporting date (at least one week in the future) or a letter from the school specifying the latest date that you can report for the same program.
- If you are an exchange visitor applying for a J-1 visa, submit a Form DS-2019 with a valid start date (at least one week in the future) or a letter from the sponsoring organization specifying the latest date you can report for the same program.
- If additional information is requested, you must send information about your curriculum and your supervising professor.
