AOS Interview - Montgomery AL
Hello, I just wanted to share my AOS interview experience. My interview was conducted yesterday March 22, 2019. My wife and I arrive 15 minutes before the interview. First we went through security and then we did some sort of registration with an officer, the officer only asked for my ID (spouse beneficiary) I provided my DL and the he told us to wait in another area.

We were waiting for about 10 minutes when the immigration officer came to the waiting area and call my last name, my wife and I got up and then the officer said that he only needed to talk to my wife at this time (Petitioner), and that I have to remain in the waiting area, he also told my wife to bring all sorts of evidence with her to his office.

While I was in the waiting area (a little bit nervous since couples usually are interviewed together), the officer was nice to my wife, He asked her about her job position, how expensive was our wedding, how we met, if we know each other’s parents, who proposed and if I speak English as good as she does (My wife is from another country and because US Citizen a couple of years ago).

After those questions he told her that he was going to call me in to ask me a couple more of questions but before that instructed her to put together all the information that she considered important and that shows our marriage was real. She told him that we prepared a table of contents for him so he doesn’t have to go through the whole folder of evidence. He looked at it quickly and said that it was nice but instructed again to take out of the folder and put together any evidence she considered was important to show our marriage was real.

The officer and my wife went to the waiting area and call me into the office. In the office he made me swear that all the statements I was about to make were true and after that took a picture of me and the fingerprints. He told me that he instructed my wife to do something while we go over some questions. He started asking for the envelope from the doctor since I didn’t submitted this info, where I was born, current address and then all the yes/no questions in the forms.

He ask me if I violated the terms of my visa and I said yes because I over stay and I marked the same on the forms so he said that he can see that on the forms. Next question was if I ever worked before having my EAD, I replied yes and explain that I opened a LLC and always worked self employed. I described that in the forms but on the yes/no questions I said I marked no.

In my mind since I was legally able to open a LLC and paid taxes for it every single year I didn’t considered it “illegal work” but it is and I understand that now.

When I say yes to that one he told me that I replied NO in the forms and that it was a mistake. He corrected the answer and ask me how long I worked without authorization, I answered also indicating that I mention the self employment and dates in the forms.

After that he said ok, this is your first marriage and asked me if I have any children I said not yet then asked my wife the same question and she replied no but we have a dog, the officer laughed and said that it can be a loot of work too.

After those questions he asked my wife for the evidence, she selected our joint apartment lease, joint power bills, joint tax return for 2018, joint credit card statements, joint bank account statements, joint employer sponsored benefits statements and flight tickets for our upcoming honeymoon.

Officer asked about our honeymoon plans then kept with the tickets, apartment lease, tax return and some of the statements from our joint accounts.

After adding those documents to the file he said I am going to approve you, I consider you marriage to be true, wish us well and to please take care of each other (that part I considered to be really nice to say at that point) follow by the stamp over the forms saying APPROVED

My wife and I wanted to cry at that point and thank him for his time. He said I would get my card in about two weeks. When we were leaving the office I got the email update for my I-130 saying that is approved and for the I-485 saying that my card is in production.

I really want to say thanks to all the August 2018 fillers for they support and do an special mention to USCFFS for all his help in this forums and the help he provided to me privately when I had questions and concerns.
