Calgary H-1B Visa Appointment Status Changed from "Approved" to "Refused"
My spouse had her first time H-1B visa appointment in the US Consulate in Calgary on 11-12-24, process was very smooth, visa officer said I'm approving your visa and you will get your passport in 5 days (since we opted for premium delivery).
11-13-24: Visa status changed to "approved"
11-18-24: Visa status changed to "refused"
Not sure why the status changed from approved to refused.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Any idea what needs to be done next?
Hello,
My spouse had her first H-1B visa interview appointment on Nov-12, 2024 at 8:30 am in Calgary. We opted for premium delivery of passport to the BLS International location and the visa officer said you will get your passport in 5 days. Status changed to "approved" on Nov-13, 2024 but no notification yet on the CAEC website of status changed to "issued" or an e-mail from usvisa-info regarding the passport being ready for pick up.
Notably, my visa appointment was on Nov-7, 2024 and I got the email for passport ready for pick up on Nov-12, 2024.
I completed h1 and h4 in person interview today at toranto but I am not able to track my DS-160 as well.i am getting error ( your search didn’t find any data)
Can some one please help . I have no idea what to do
I completed my visa interview on November 12th at 7:30 a.m. at the Toronto location. However, when I try to track my visa, it says 'Your search didn't find any data.'
My H-1B Visa Renewal Experience at the US Consulate in Calgary, Canada
Appointment: Friday, October 18, 2024, 8:30 AM
To prepare for my visa renewal, I flew to Calgary on October 17th. I also had to activate my Canadian work permit (H-1B OWP) which I did upon arrival. I stayed in an Airbnb within 10 mins walking distance of the US Consulate, as I knew I couldn't bring my phone or bag to the appointment. Though I later learnt that they did have a locker facility for phones available at the consulate. Bags were strictly not allowed.
October 18, 2024 (Friday):
* 8:15 AM: Arrived at the consulate to find a long queue. Despite having an 8:30 appointment, people with later appointments were already in line.
* Security Check: A security guard checked my passport and appointment confirmation before allowing me inside.
* Document Verification: At the first counter, they verified my passport, DS-160 confirmation page, Canadian work permit, and the date stamped passport size photo. They also confirmed that the DS-160 listed Calgary as the interview location and requested a passport-sized photograph with a date stamp.
* Security Screening: I underwent a thorough airport-style security check, including removing my belt and having my documents folder inspected.
* Waiting Area: After security, I waited in a designated area before being escorted to the 10th floor for the interview.
* Document Review: On the 10th floor, I approached a window where my passport, photograph, Canadian work permit, and H-1B approval notice (I-797-A) were reviewed.
* Biometrics: My fingerprints were taken at the next window.
* Visa Interview: Finally, I reached the interview window.
Interview:
The Visa Officer (VO) was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He confirmed that I was there for an H-1B visa renewal and asked me to verify my employer and job title. He also asked if I had a US degree, which I confirmed. The interview lasted less than a minute, and my visa was approved! The VO took my passport and informed me it would be returned within one to two weeks, but likely sooner.
Post-Interview:
Immediate Approval: My DS-160 status online updated to "Approved" almost immediately.
October 21, 2024 (Monday):
* 11:00 AM: DS-160 status changed to "Issued."
* 2:00 PM: Received an email from the consulate with my passport dispatch information and Canada Post tracking details.
* 3:00 PM: Received an email from Canada Post confirming receipt of my passport and providing a next-day delivery estimate.
October 22, 2024 (Tuesday):
* 10:30 AM: Received notification that my passport was ready for pickup. I paid for the premium delivery service, but I am not completely sure if that added any value.
* 11:00 AM: Reached the Canada Post Pickup location, showed my US Driver’s license for ID proof, and picked my Passport up.
Overall:
The entire process was remarkably smooth and efficient. I was in and out of the consulate within an hour. Over the weekend I checked out the city downtown and enjoyed the fall foliage at local parks. Totally recommend one of the walking tours offered in the city.
