AOS Interview experience
Hello Everyone,

I have been reading different post for AOS experience and it was so helpful to me and my husband for preparation. Here is our timeline:

May 2018 : Application submitted
July 2018: Biometrics
Sep 2018 : EAD received (expedite requested due to financial crunch )
Jan 2019: Interview Notice ( Cancelled it coz of different location)
Feb 2019: Another notice with correct location
April 2019: Interview (got approval same day)
Within a Week : I had my GC in hand.

Following things we took with us:
wedding album
loose photos (around 50)
Tax paper
Joint account
Utility Bills
Pay Stubs (mine and Husband's on same address)
Health insurance
Rental Insurance
Lease document and few more proof of our good faith marriage.

Be well organize in your documents and photos, and there is nothing to worry as long as you have a good faith marriage. Having more proof always help at interview if it is nicely organized.

we reached there 30 mins before the interview. Got good parking spot and we were very excited. We went in and cross security check In. we went to window to give our notice, they looked at it and told us to wait in waiting area.

We were called in by officer almost after 30 mins, and we were watching Netflix series meanwhile. Officer was real gentleman and kind person with little bit of strictness. I guess it was ok to be strict, as it is part of their job. We went in and took oath, and he asked us for our IDs, He checked it and asked who (my husband's name) is this? we were shocked and I told him that's my husband :-) . He was I guess confuse because my husband has unisex name. we cracked joke about it too.

He asked for real documents and I gave him all real documents with photo copies. He asked if we had any other documents, my husband gave him all documents we had. He was happy that we had more than he needed. He asked my husband's full name, date of birth and place of birth, he asked same information about me. He went through each and every photos of album and asked me if he can take photos from wedding album. I explained to him that this is the only wedding album we have, and he was very nice that he did not take photos from there and choose 4-5 photos from loose photos.

When he was going through album, he asked me questions like how we met, when we met, how he propose me, what did I study (as he saw graduation photos). it was more of conversational interview after he saw our wedding album (he enjoyed our album, as I was explaining him all events in photos). He asked my husband where he work and what he do. During interview my husband also cracked some jokes about me. After everything, he asked me yes/no questions and asked us if we had any questions? we said no, and he said don't you wanna know what will happen? I was like sure, sir, would you please tell us next step?

He said, he doesn't see any issue, he will take decision today and I will get decision in mail. He also explained us, about 2 years green card, that's were we got happy about it. we got online update in 2 hours that card is in production.

Good luck to you guys, go there with good preparation and everything will be good.

Hi guys.. I had my interview this morning.
Marriage December 2017
Pd June 2018
Biometrics July 2018
Status changed to ready to schedule interview August 2018
Received social and EAD November 2018
Interview today April 2019

Same sex couple.

The time for interview was 8am. We arrived at 7:25am.. checked in at 7:31am. My lawyer was a little late. He came in literally 3 mins before we were called at 8:10am. The officer was very reserved and quiet. Only asked questions based on the i485 application. Asked if we had joint document. We provided lease and most recent tax. We had a utility bill but we forgot to print that out. He said how we met, a couple is yes Or no questions again based on the application. He asked me if I’ve been denied visa before. I said yes. From my 4th year in medical school (2015) in a different country. He asked for the reason. I said she didn’t see prove that I would return. Which was crazy cos I was more than half way through school. He made a joke (but you haven’t returned tho) lol I said it doesn’t count coz I came to visit and left then I finished medical school 2 years after. He said ok. Everything looks good but he want to take a look at my b2 application(for the visa I was denied which I don’t think it’s a big deal because visas are rarely issued in countries other than your home country) before he makes a decision.

I was happy when I left but now I’m a little worried we weren’t given any paper or anything.. so we just wait??

My AOS journey- long and crazy with happy ending
I’m writing this to give hope to others that are still waiting through this AOS journey.

My initial journey started in the Fall of 2012. At the time of my first marriage, I had just graduated from grad school in a long distance relationship. I lived in the Midwest and my ex-husband lived out East.

Fortunately, I was able to find a job in my then home state before graduation which meant I had to live apart from my then boyfriend. I used my OPT for my job and there came a proposal. Ex-husband and I got married and decided to live apart until our traditional and church wedding.

First interview was in May 2013. We were separated and had no idea what else to expect. We were upfront with USCIS about our living situation and outlined our plans to live together once we had our ceremonies done.

We magically got called for a second interview in November of 2014. To say we were shocked about this is an understatement. We decided to retain an attorney as insurance. That interview was very unpleasant as the IO came at us from different angels.

We received nothing in reference to a decision until Fall 2015. It was a NOID ( notice of intent to deny). Mind you, we both lived in the same state and address at this time. We responded to the NOID but we were eventually denied based on some things I did not know about my ex-husband and therefore couldn’t fight. (My husband had kids before us and he never told me but accept USCIS, that would have been fine but he didn’t disclose). I then got a NTA for removal proceedings as a result of the denial.

That started our problems and issues although we continued living together. Our relationship strained and he became abusive. At the advice of a friend, I filed for VAWA (got 2 EADs) and 1 RFE. VAWA was eventually denied because I was not able to prove a bonafied marriage. They did believe the abuse and all the other stuff.

I eventually sought divorce based on abuse in Spring 2017.

In the summer of 2017, I met a wonderful guy through my best friend and we got married in Winter 2018. We also had a traditional and religious ceremonies.

Round 2 of AOS began. I was scared to go through with this as I was in removal proceedings and had no idea what was to come.

We have our initial interview in January 2019 where my husband and I were separated. After comparing our answers, there was only 2 things I had forgotten - number of guests at our traditional wedding and our last trip lol. Interview went well but IO was hard to read.

About 6 weeks after the first interview, we received another notification for a second interview. I was scared but my husband wasn’t.

Our second interview wasn’t bad at all. IO asked us about 7 pages of questions (150 in total which she told us at the end). We got everything right with the exception of 1 my husband couldn’t remember (my take home pay after taxes). We told IO i had immigration court coming up. She assured us she’d make a decision between 2-4 weeks so we can get on with our lives.
About 2 weeks later, we got our approval emails. Both I-130 and I-485! According to our lawyer, they never approve the I485 when you’re in removal proceedings BUT they did!!

We showed up at my removal hearing yesterday and the DHS attorney agreed to dismiss my case. She also asked to see my green card in person but I didn’t carry it with lol (I told my husband I feared they’ll take it from me lol). The judge dismissed the case based on the approval letters and copy of the green card. The DHS lawyer asked my attorney to bring the green card to her some time this week so we won’t have to file to reopen.

All in all, it has been a crazy journey but there is hope. My first marriage was real but it didn’t fit USCIS’ definition of a traditional marriage. I guess it also revealed something about my ex-husband I may never have known.

I hope this brings hope and peace to someone going through something similar. All cases are different but we can pick bits and pieces from places.

Friends,I need your opinions for a doubt I have: I am a Bronx filler, I have been waiting for the green card for 10 months,my PD is June 6 2018 and my case has been ready for the interview since July 18 2018. My question is should I apply for work permit now or at this moment is better to wait for the green card interview? If I apply for work permit now, how long will it take to come?
