H1B Approved - Hyderabad Consulate
***Thank you so much ImmiHelp and the people who shared their good/bitter experiences, these are very helpful for H1B and other visa category aspirants.***

Here are the dates for me -
OFC: July 27, 2017
Interview: July 28, 2017
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: July 27, 2017 - 9:30 AM
OFC experience was quite smooth and took only 5-10 mins for us (Me, spouse and our kid)

Docs Required:
1. Passport(Current and last expired)
2. DS-160 Confirmation page
3. Visa appointment letter
4. Kids photograph(As per US visa standard)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- We reached by 9:30 AM and allowed to enter by security
- Very positive atmosphere during whole time in the consulate.
- Our turn came in approx. 1.5 hrs. after entering the consulate.

------- VO asked me to come forward -------
Passport and I797 was already with VO(provided by helper just before my turn)

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning

VO: So you guys are here for H1B?
Me: Yes

VO: Where do you work?
Me: XYZ

VO: Whats your highest qualification?
Me: Answered

VO: What salary?
Me: XYZ dollars per Year (This was confusing as I was thinking for a moment to answer current Indian salary or proposed US salary, this must be US if not asked for current Indian salary)

Looked at my spouse:
VO: How long you been married?
My spouse: Answered

Looked at my Kid:
VO: How old are you?(...with smile)
Kid: 4 years

Asked us:
VO: Did you read the Pamphlet(This was given while we were waiting for our turn)?
We: Yes

VO: Good, you both must read it
We: Sure

VO: You guys are good to go, your Visa is approved
We: Thank you (...and left the counter)

Overall experience was quite smooth. Be confidant and listen carefully what VO is asking for and if you don't hear properly then don't hesitate to ask again. I experienced that VOs don't want to reject anyone, they just want to make sure that applicant is genuine and his/her documentation is proper.

Also, you may think that why to share experience but believe me, your good/bitter experience can change someone's Visa outcome, so please do share your experience here.

All the best!

Admin processing- VO took passport, given 221g white paper with status tracker
Visa Interview:

VO: Do you work YYYY ?
Me: Yes

VO: what is your work location?
Me: ZZZ

VO: What is your salary?
ME: ZZZ

VO: I can't decide on your case now and we need to do additional processing.

Then, VO handled me a 221g white slip with status tracker on it and asked me to contact the email address if I don't receive any updates within 5 working days.

Me: Is there anything else that I need to do?
VO: No. You are good.

Did anyone experience the same scenario and generally how long does it take for admin processing to finish?

Admin processing- no docs asked- vo took passport
Me: This will be my first h1. Already on an f1, and working in the same field as my studies. Presently working with a consultancy on evvc model.

Biometrics - 26 th july- straightforward

Visa interview

Had the standard documents like 797, client and vendor letters, paystubs, tax returns etc

I stood in the line, after various security check etc. The two people in front of me had their visa rejected, they were applying for an f1 visa. In the adjacent counter a h1 got approved.

I stepped up, and the usual greeting and then ,

VO: Did you study in the us ?
Me: yes, I did

VO: is your employer xxxxx
Me: Yes, that is correct

VO: Do you work for one of their clients ?
Me: Yes, I work at the client side and the client is xxxxx

VO: where is the workplace ?
Me: told the place

VO: how do you survive the Winters there !
I just smiled and said you get used to it

VO: how long a.have you been working for the client and what do you do there ?
About 2.5 years and explained some responsibilities

VO: what did you study in the us ?
Master in so and so

VO then said ,I everything looks good but the passport will take a little longer as you are going from f1 to h1, looks like the sevis has not updated properly. You do not need to submit any documents, and everything is okay.

Me: do you know how long it will take ?
VO: cant say for sure, but should not be long

Me: but the visa is approved right ?
VO: it is not in the system, but I don't see a problem

She then gave me a white slip with the case number.

Anyone with similar experience ? Any idea how long it might take ?

H1b Visa interview Question
Hi All,

I have my H1b interview in few days. I am working as a software engineer in US but my education background is from electrical engineering, will that be a problem during visa interview. will there be any chances of 221g or visa rejections due to this reason. what would be the best answer if they ask "why are you working in IT field being from non-IT background?". please suggest. Thanks.
