Filing I-485 for spouse when PD is NOT current

Anyone who have filed I-485 for spouse/derivative when priority dates are not current? Is this acceptable?

I am assuming the scenario that principal applicant maintains H-1 and filed I-485 earlier (when PD was current) and spouse is in US on H-4.

Please share your experiences.
