i 485 Green card Approval time..need quick response Plz

I Applied for my parents adjusment of status to chicago center. I would like to know how long it takes to get green card

1.Date Application received- Sept 26 2012
2. Biometrics - Oct 26

Since then no word from USCIS. Any idea whats going to be next & when can they expect to receive their green card. I am planning to change to travel date to jan 31 st 2013. Can they travel without green card once they get aprroval. I would highly aprreacite any response I have to change to airplane tickets.

The average processing time seems to be four or five months, so you might have to wait a while. I don't think it's possible to travel using the NOA instead of the physical green card.
