  • interpreter for adjustment of status interview

Hi All - My parents are having adjustment of status interview next month in NY. As a requirement those who dont speak english fluently need to bring an interpreter. Could anyone please help me understand if there is any restrictions for being an interpreter? Do we have to hire a professional for that? Or a friend or relative also acceptable?

    Thanks for your help

    Regards

A friend, family member or yourself would suffice. Feel free to be the interpreter if you would like to.

    Good luck.

Thank you. I heard it cannot be the petitioner/sponsor or any close relatives, in which a case i cannot be as i am their sponsor. I was thinking of availing service of a friend. Hope that will be okay.

      Thanks

I also have an interview re:485 coming up & on the letter it states at the bottom that " If you do not speak English, a person ( NOT a family member & or attorney) who can act as an interpreter, should accompany you. " A friend should be okay though, But no family members according to USCIS
