Hi, I need advise on this :
My mother got her Green card. But the "Country of Birth" was marked as "Unknown" though her date of birth was written correctly.
I called up INS and was told that I should file I-90.
So I paid $70 and filed I-90. After 3 months, Got Biometrics appointment today, When I went there, She said "NO, this cannot be changed" and gave 3 reasons for that
1. Because my mother's birth certificate was not available, I had got a "Non-availability certificate" from India . - So, that's not considered enough to figure out the COuntry of Birth, though She has Indian passport and I had produced Enough number of affidavits regarding her Birth.
2. India writes the Date first before the month for example: 04/12/66 which is mis-matching the format here with the month being first like 12/04/66 so She said the Date is not matching.
3. One of the clerks has probably made an error of entering the Country of bith as Unknown and She also said that may be, I missed specifying the Country of birth in my application.
- So summary: The Biometrics lady said it cannot be changed unless I get a registered birth certificate from Govt .of India.
I asked if This is something that I need to be worried about - Would it affect anthing in future for my mother regarding her travel or future citizenship if I left the Country of Birth as Unknown in her Greencard, and She said Not really.
- IS that true? Should I just leave it alone?
- Please could someone suggest to me what is the Best Approach to this?
Thankyou So much.. Appreciate your time and input..
