My wife and I have been working on adjusting her status to a permanent residence. Weve sent in all the papers and already had her biometrics done and everything! We recieved her EAD card today in the mail so we ran to the SS office so as to apply for a number for her. They took a while but they rejected us in the end. The lady said that since she was applying for a change of status she could not receive a SS# from her EAD card. She said that the two processes dont work together and that she wont be able to get a SS# without her green card. Is that right? We filed for the EAD so that she could work while waiting for her green card. Is there no way to make this work?

The SSA staff person is misinformed. This happens quite often when the interim Work Authorization has been received. If the SSA person did not try to confirm USCIS status, that was the first problem because she didn't recognize the authority of the Work Authorization. If she did try and USCIS rejected the interface, it is probably because the USCIS interface file had not been updated.
For some peculiar reason, these rejections seem to be quite common at SSA offices in Georgia.
Try another SSA office.

It is not always fault of the government employee. Many of these problems are the result of poor communication by the applicant. While I am in sympathy with any immigrant who fails to get satisfaction at a public counter at an SSA, DMV or USCIS office, such failure is often the result of not providing enough information to the government employee.

Try the immediate supervisor and if still you get no relief, then better try the head office. I am sure there are people along the line that is knowledgeable
about the process. Good Luck!

Adjustment of Status and EAD question
Hello guys...
I'm a US citizen and I recent got married. I'm filing my husband as adjustment of status and started my paper work. I got few questions;
1) can his cousin sponsor him and fill the affidavit of support?
2) do I submit the biometric form along with all other forms?
3) what are the strongest evidence that I need to submit?
Jazakallah

1. You, as the petitioner, are the "primary" sponsor and need to provide an I-864 package. Anyone else 21 or older with U.S. citizenship or legal residency can be a co-sponsor.
2. What do you mean by "biometric form?" You must submit G-325A forms for both of you with the I-130, and of the applicant with the I-485. A "Biometrics" appointmenet notice will later be mailed to the applicant.
3. All required forms and supporting documents are equally "strong." What is initially looked for at USCIS "intake" are currency of forms, valid original signatures, correct fee amount on checks, and correct receiving address. Any of these can result in a package rejection and return.
