  • H1-B to B2

    Hi,

I am currently on a H1-B up until Dec 2014. I am looking to quit my employment position around April and cycle around the USA for 1 year. I have a couple of questions regarding this:

    > While cycling I am hoping to raise funds for a US charity. Will that mean I will need a B1 or is a B2 sufficient?
    > Should I apply for a 10yr visa, so I can leave after 6 months and return again within a week to continue my journey and complete the year.
    > How do I go about applying for this change in the US? Can I apply to a consulate in the US? I am Irish citizen
    > While waiting I was intending to start cycling until I got called for interview and then either request a closer location for interview or fly back. Would it be possible to request a location change of interview closer to my location at the time? The reason I wish to start before the process is complete is because I understand the whole process can take 2.5 months or more, and it would be expensive paying bills etc while I wait. I would rather be optimistic and start my cycling while I wait for the process to complete.

If there is anything particularly wrong or illegal about what I'm planning, please let me know. Would like to do it right first time around if possible.

    Thank you in advance
