    Hi all

A little background. I've been traveling back and forth to the U.S. for the past 6-7 years since my brother emigrated here with his american wife. At first using the visa waiver program then using a b1/b2 visa. 3 years ago I met and married an american lady. After 2.5 years of spending 6 months US / 6 months UK everyone has finally decided to stay in America. So last trip my wife and I filled in the I-130.

I-130 petition has been approved. Passed to the NVC and I should hear back in the next month or 2. My problem is I am due to leave by Apr 2nd at the latest.

So my question is what next? Do we send in an I-485? Do I have to leave in 3 weeks? can it all be done here?

I've made a lot of phone calls, done a lot of browsing. But no definitive answer. I have an appointment with an immigration lawyer next week for advice but that's 10 days before I have to leave and cheap tickets are running out.

Thank you for any and all advice

    You have two options:

    1. Pay the immigration lawyer $2,000 and follow his advice, which may or may not be the best advice you can get.
    2. With proof of approval of your I-130, submit an I-485 with supporting documents and be processed in the U.S. (without leaving) in about 6 months.

Thank you for such a quick answer. We'll get my I-485 filed this week.

      Very helpful
