  • F1 Visa holder married to US citizen, AOS

This might be a little lengthy but I'd appreciate comments and feedback since I have little to no clue about immigration procedures. My US citizen wife and I met during the summer of one of my few visits to the US prior to coming over for my studies (I'm currently an F-1 student). We got married last summer (June 2013) and had a baby over the festive season (December 2013). Now we're preparing to file concurrently in order for me to get a green card so I'd just like to make a few clarifications regarding certain issues.
    1) When filing my I-485 for Adjustment of Status , do i need to send an Affidavit of Support or should I keep the Affidavit for my interview?
    2) I already have a Social Security Number (which is only valid with DHS approval), would I need to apply for a new SSN? Or are they going to remove the conditions on my current SS card since I'd now be a permanent resident.

    3. Similar to my SSN, my driver's license has got several restrictions and expires when my I-20 does. Would I need to apply to the DMV for those restrictions to be removed once my AOS is completed?

So far these are the questions that I can think of at the moment. I look forward to getting a response. Thanks in advance.

    Congratulations!
I was on same page like you years ago, so I hired a cheap attorney for all the paper work , but as far as I knw I produced all the copies in the mail to uscis , when the time of interview you take all the original docs, it's been years can't remember but ,If your talking about sponsorship yes I sent only copies of the sponsors w2 and p resident card , if your affidavit get approved then u ll receive ead card (work permit ) with this card you can go to DMV and get new drivers license,
Don't worry about the dhs on the Ssn, no changes will be done on your ssn card until you get your permanent resident card, I tried so many times to change it but they gave me the same dhs stamp on every new ssn card, and it wouldn't hurt you , leave it as it is for now.
Congrats on having baby too, you ll get temporary resident card (conditional)valid for 2 years though you have a baby , my son was 6 months old when I applied , good thing is they don't ask you too many questions coz u have baby.all the best
