List of documents : Checklist

Hello,

My wife and I (J1 Visa, 2 years rule doesn't apply) just wanted to make sure with you guys that we filled and gathered all the needed documents for my Green Card process.
Here's what we have :

Form I-130 with
- Copy of her US Birth Certificate
- Copy of her US Passport
- Copy of her divorce certificate
- Copy of our mariage certificate
- Passport-style color photos of both of us
- Proof of joint bank account
- Pictures of holidays, wedding, etc.
- A $420 check

Form I-485 with
- Copy of my French Birth Certificate (translated)
- Copy of my Passport
- Copy of my J1 Visa
- 2 Passport-style color photos of me
- A $1070 check

Form I-693, sealed, with
- My medical examination

Forms G-325A for both of us

Form I-864 with
- Copy of her tax returns for the past two years
- Statement explaining why she didn't fill her taxes in 2011
- Copy of my tax return for the past two years

Form G-1145

Please, if you see some important pieces missing, let us know !
Same if, for exemple, we need more G-325A (since the form is asked both for the I-130 AND the I-485...)

Add the following to your list:

1. Employment verification proof from each of you.
2. Forms I-765 and I-131.
3. Form I-864A for household member form for you, as the I-864 is from your wife.
4. Copy of your I-94 reflecting your last entry to the U.S.

It's weird none of the instructions led me to the I-765 and I-131...
Could explain briefly why do I need them ?

Seb,

You weren't reading complete and available information about the Adjustment of Status procedure.

The I-765 and I-131 were added to the mix about 6 years ago when the fee was raised from $355 to $1,070 to make the process more beneficial.

The I-765 provides a temporary work authorization in advance of the Green Card approval. The I-131 provide approval to reenter the U.S. while waiting for the Green Card interview and/or approval in case the applicant needs to leave the U.S. temporarily while the Adjustment procedure is in the works.

So, to be sure, if I had the 3 forms (I-765, I-131 and I864A) and the copy of my I-94, I should be good?
No need to double the G-325A (requested for the I-130 AND the I-485)?
Are 2 passport-style pictures of me and one of my wife enough ?

When you put the pieces together a "piece at a time," you sometimes miss completing the whole fabric.

Anyway, we are now agreed on the needed forms I-130, I-485, I-864, I864A, I-765, I-131. G-325A

The I-485 requires a G-325A for the applicant. The I-130 requires separate G-325A forms for both petitioner and applicant.
You need two applicant passport photos for I-485, I-765, I-131, and one passport photo for I-130.
You need one passport-style photo of petitioner for I-130.

I normally include copies of I-94 and applicant passport ID page for: I-485, I-765, I-131 and I-130.

Each of the procedures (I-485, I-765, I-131 and I-130) should stand by itself and have its own set of supporting docs.

The above covers the needed forms and some of the supporting docs.

But you should have a a second experienced set of eyes to review all your documents for completeness and accuracy.
