  • Last name Issue I-485

So in my passport my name has 2 last names and 1 given name, while in my marriage certificate where it states my maiden name, my maiden name is stated as 1 given name 1 middle name and 1 last name...

cause i am brazilian and always thought i had one middle/one last name until someone told me i have 2 last names and no middle cause is like that in my passport...

is that going to be a problem for my green card??? will they think that this is not my marriage certificate because of the middle last name issue???

please help :/ do i have to do a new marriage certificate or should it be fine?

You're legally married, but you'll have to handle your name formatting in whatever way seems to work with each government agency you approach.

My advice is to simplify your name formatting on all U.S. government agency forms you fill out from now on. You will find that our government agencies are very tolerant and flexible when it comes to understanding name formatting affectations in common use in other countries (surname-given name reversals; lack of either surname or given name; simplifying spelling; multiple nodes of first, middle or last names, etc.). The best way to handle this is to retain one node of your first name and your husband's family name as your last name. Thus, "Maria Javier Gonzalez Pepperoni-Lopez" becomes "Maria Smith," or "Maria Javier Smith."

      Thank you very much !

So that means that should be fine i send my documentation to USCIS for adjustment of status just like that right?

2 last in passport, 1 middle/1last in marriage certificate

cause i dont really wanna go and do all my marriage certificate again, but i was afraid that would be a problem to USCIS, but with your comment i assume it should be fine thanks a lot, God bless
