  • Unique/annoying situation, preparing for our interview

Hey there! Just got married in April and finally we've saved up the money to pay the legal fees to file his adjustment of status..
trying to get prepared as much as we can for our interview but I have a feeling that much like everyone else here, our situation is unique and equally as annoying. I am 22 and my husband is 28. He came here on a b1-b2 visa and we got married pretty fast. We've already started to organize our photos and documents for the interview, however I'm slightly worried that our name not being on a lease together will be a huge issue. Because he is on a B1-B2 visa he was not given a social security number to work, therefore in NYC it's VERY difficult to get his name on a lease because he has ZERO credit in the US, and no number for them to do a background check anyway...
In addition to this we have recently moved to Kansas City because I am doing a production apprenticeship and we are staying with friends for the next 4 months. We will most likely be able to have letters and a "sub-lease" agreement provided by our friends to prove our living situation, but I am more concerned that with our interview being in NY and our new address being in Missouri we will run into another issue.
I would have already considered moving the case to this state, however we are already 3k invested in our immigration attorney in NYC.
Could any one in NYC or someone with a similar issue give me some insight on what to expect and how I can further prepare myself for this?

    Thank you so much!!

$3,000 for an immigration attorney to do an Adjustment package is kind of steep, especially since he has not provided answers to the questions you raise here.

    1. Don't transfer your Adjustment procedure to another USCIS jurisdiction. A transfer can result in several months additional delay.
    2. Don't worry about not having his name on a lease or rental agreement. That evidence will not be needed until his actual interview, and is not required at the petition submittal. An explanation for not having his name on a lease agreement will suffice, if properly explained. Also, he will be able to get an SSN when he gets his temporary Work Authorization (if your attorney included form I-765 with the Adjustment package).
