  • 3 questions about I-485

Hi! I have 3 questions about filling out the I-485 form. I am a Canadian citizen married to an American resident and am currently in the US applying from within the country:

    1. Where do I find my Nonimmigrant Visa Number on a B2 Visa stamp? In my passport all i have is a blue stamp with the date i arrived in red as well as a B2 and the date it expires in red. The date is also hand written below the stamp

    2. My visa was stamped as i crossed the border from Canada into the US. There was no Consulate involved. do i just put n/a in the “Consulate where visa was issued” section?

    3. In part 3b, I have put my spouses info, and it asks if she is applying with me. She is the one sponsoring me and filling out the I-130 which will be submitted at the same time. Would i check yes or no here?

      1. When coming from Canada and given an "unofficial" B2 status, you have no nonimmigrant visa number, at lest not shown on your passport.
      2. Correct.
      3. Put "no" for your sponsor info in that section of the I-485 (Mary H was right on that one).

        Thank you!
So would I leave the visa number section blank then?

Also, in Part 1 it is asking information about my address. Would this be my current address where i am living in the US with my wife, or would it be my address back in Canada?

Input "N/A" for the visa number field on the I-485. Don't leave it blank.
