I485 Reopen Question

Hi

On December 12, I got notification that my I485 was approved and welcome mail was sent. On 19th I have received the welcome mail from uscis which says my permanent resident status has been registered.

However, on December 15, the case status was changed to Case Reopened

"On December 15, 2014, we reopened your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status and mailed you a notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your reopening notice by January 14, 2015"

I did not request USCIS to reopen the case. I am not sure why it was reopended. There was a RFE to submit the correct birth certificate on Aug and I've submitted it on Sept and the status was changed to Approved on December 12.

Any idea why it was changed to reopened ? Should I worry ?

Also, I have received the welcome mail on 19th, How soon I should receive the greencard in hand ?

I tried infopass, but they said they don't have any slot available till the end of this year. I didn't try calling them. I did try to call them in the past for other questions and all they did was to read the status which was written on uscis case status website.

Did you get the notice yet on the "re-opening" after approval? Sometimes the USCIS system doesn't update chronologically which could mean that the system "thought" your I485 was initially denied then re-opened then approved which would be the "normal" order. (For example, people often get "Card Production Ordered" first then "Decision/Approved" later but the normal order should be "Decision/Approved" first then "Card Production Ordered").

Since you received a Welcome Notice in the mail already, it would seem your case was approved but better wait to see what the "Re-opened" notice says if/when you receive it (you should get something in the mail). If it was mailed Dec 15, you should get it by Dec 23/24 I would think.

Please update us when you do get something.

I just called USCIS and talked to the representative. He is also confused why the case was opened after the status "Approved" and "We have ordered card". He also advised me to wait till I get the reopening notice to see what is going on with the case.

"After review, we have opened the above application or petition, or reconsidered the decision previously issued. You will receive a notice under separate cover once all action has been completed"

That's it.

Any idea what should I do next ?

I highly doubt there would be another round of interview. I've received a notice I485 approval and a welcome letter stating that my permanent residency has been registered and a 'Welcome to America' mail.
My lawyer sent me a 'congratulations on your greencard' mail as well.

Anyways, I have scheduled an infopass next week to ask them in person what is going on, hopefully I may get an answer.

I went to USCIS today taking infopass. The officer reviewed my case and told me that my case has been pending for background check. He said that the interviewing offer has indeed approved the I485 on December 12 after a background check but after 3 days, a higher officer who were validating the action, noticed that another background check result was missing so he reopened the case.

I don't understand how many background checks they make. The RFE was responded in August and the background check was started either in Aug or Sept. It has been about half an year and It is kind of difficult to believe that a background check may take this much time.

My lawyer is not helpful in this case and he is unreachable for me. Any suggestions what should I do now or whom I should contact about my case ?

Call uscis they send letter dated nov 7 2014 in mail case is pending wait 90 days which ended on feb 7 . Call congressman on 23 jan 2014 got response sameday that tsc is backlog and behind 6 months . Wait 30 to 45 days our file got to officer desk on jan 21 2014 . I raise sr to on jan 15 didn't receive response on that . I had my interview on sep 22 2009 . Officer told everything good wait for visa to be current . Current since July , if they r following proceeding time then how come they giving approval to others who r current in less than 30 days . Will their schedule another interview . Don't Khow how much more to wait after that long wait to be current .
