  • Chicago Field Office Processing Time

    Hello,
I've won DV2015 while in US on a J1 status and married to J1 student as well. We have applied for AOS and the interview was in mid December. During the interview the officer asked only basic questions. Took about 15-20 minutes most of which were silent. Unfortunately, officer couldn't give us an answer at that moment. "I need to review the file and you will be notified by mail" was the exact answer. I asked if there is a time frame and was told to schedule an InfoPass appointment if we don't receive anything within 120 days.

Now, looking at the processing time for the Chicago office, it says for I-485 they are reviewing cases from March 2014. My interview passed and I am not sure if my case falls in to this category or not (is the processing time for when they start reviewing cases or decisions for cases that were open in March 2014). Other offices have the processing time for the different basis of the same form. I've heard some people receive a letter couple weeks after the interview with status update (notification to expect green card in the mail).

I am starting to get worried. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hey. We filed for AOS in May 2014. Our office is chicago as well. We had our green card interview on Dec 11th 2014. We were told we are approved and we should get a GC within 2 weeks. Two months have passed and no words from uscis. I went to infopass in January 2015 and they told us that we are awaiting a decision and that they are pretty overloaded with cases. Yes. I was thinking the same thing what March 23rd means in processing time in Chicago office. I think these are the cases that were finished lastly. So it means that we have some more waiting ahead of us.

Whats is the basis of your AOS, marriage?

Also, I figured exactly what those dates mean - As of end on November 2014, they were closing cases that were open March 1st 2014 (and that is best case scenario, e.g. there are people waiting longer than that). Regardless, it seems like your case is about time to be closed (if no escalations).
