Adjustment Of Status after 3 years of marriage

Not sure how this forum works so if I posted this in wrong spot please let me know.
So I came here on K1 visa in 2011,got married same year,we have two kids together and my husbands daughter lives with us full time. Long story short we applied for AOS January 2015 and I got my Biometrics done few weeks ago. I'm waiting for my working permit right now and hoping that I will receive my appointment for interview soon.
Problem is that in December I went to renew my drivers license and I was told that Department of homeland security blocked me and I can't have my license renewed until I clear that up and get my AOS approved. Well I wasn't sure what's going on so I went to see lawyer right after I sent my paperwork in for AOS and she told me that I was illegal here since mid 2012. ??!!?? My husband and I thought that my only requirement with K1 visa was to come here and within 90 days get married which we did and apparently since K1 was non immigrant visa there was time limit on AOS application. I didn't know about fee waiver on AOS until I talked to immigration officer or whoever answers the phone when you call immigration service # and they told me if I am not able to afford it financially just apply for fee waiver but my husband said he knew about it and he doesn't think that will look good for us in front of immigration officer when we go for our interview. Lawyer told me that there's nothing to worried about because i came here legally and I applied for AOS, but I feel like they are going to be like WTF?! did you wait 3 years for after you got married and it may affect their decision on my green card.
I just want to hear if anyone went through this and should I be worried?

Even though you have been undocumented since 2011, you shouldn't have any problems applying for Adjustment of Status. If you already paid the submittal fee ($1,070), you can't get a refund by requesting a fee waiver. If you submitted the package without paying the fee, the package will be rejected and returned to you.

So what exactly are you asking now, or are you just telling us of your experience? I suspect you paid the Adjsutment of Status fee, and you won't get that back.

I wasn't asking about fee waiver,we already payed AOS fee just mention that I didn't know about fee waiver till few months prior of sending AOS. I am worried that they are going to give me problems since I didn't apply for AOS back in 2011-2012 and they might mention why I didn't send fee waiver with my AOS if money was the problem but my husband is telling me they can only mark you down for doing fee waiver because it will make them think you will live of government assistance after they approve you.

My question is am I in risk of being denied/deported just because paperwork wasn't done in time period they wanted me to do? Also I just checked my status online and it says they suspended my case and sent letter requesting more info from us on 03.04.2015 (still didn't receive it in the mail). Does that means that I'm going back in the line with my case or they will wait for me to send them requested documents and continue working on my case.

Most likely the RFE coming to you is becuase something may have been lacking in your sponsorship or other documents. Speculation before you have the RFE correspondence would be wasted energy right now.
