Adjustement of status for family and dependants

Hey guys,

I searched forum and google and cannot find my answer. I'm US citizen and would like to bring my mother and 15 y.o. sister lo live in USA. They both have tourist visas, and I know that I can easily adjust their status while they are here. My sister is going to school abroad and can only be here for the summer. Question is, can my mom adjust status while living with me in US and my sister living abroad? Or they both have to be in USA to adjust the status. I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Your sister is not eligible to adjust status, since she will be on a quota visa wait if you petition her. IF mom gets a Green Card or arrives with an immigrant visa, she can turn around and petition her daughter (your sister) and it will take about 20 months for sister to be eligible for a visa (or to adjust status).
