What is the point of work authorization?

All the jobs webqre applying to say we have to have a social security number to get paid. So what's the point of the work authorization card? I know we can get a SSN number now with the work authorization but if you can't work with a work permit what's the point of it??

You seem to have answered your own question. The point of a Work Authorization is to be eligible for an SSN, so that you are eligible to work. In some states the Work Authorization also allows you to be issued a driver's license for the duration of EAD eligibility.
