I am in the US right now on a F-1 visa which will expire in September (according to the date on the I-20 about when studies need to be completed, if that is the same thing as expiration?) and I am not finished yet since I changed my major and going to apply for a program extension in July. I also have an American citizen boyfriend that I plan to marry in August and then later apply for adjustment of status. I'm wondering though if it will look bad that I will marry about a month after getting an extension? That it will look like I had the intention to stay while on a F-1 visa?
And let's say that my extension application gets denied, can we then still marry in July and apply for adjustment of status? The problem though is that we have booked non-refundable trip to my home country in late July and I wouldn't be able to leave the country then after applying for AOS. If we marry now already, would prefer to wait until August however, would there be enough time to gather all information and to receive a advance parole document until late July so we can go on the trip (is four months now until then)?
Also, after/if I get an extension in the beginning of July, can I go to my home country for a couple of weeks with my boyfriend in late July and marry in the beginning/middle of August, will it seem like I am trying to adjust my status 30 days after entry since I got an extension and entered from abroad (the vacation) or does that not count since I have had my student visa for two years by then? And the 30/60/90 rule, does that apply to the day you get married or only to when you apply to adjust your status? Could there also be a problem that my boyfriend went with to my home country before we got married? Are you "allowed" to have relationships with American citizens?
