I filed green card application for my wife who is a international student. Our priority date is 15th July 2013..so I asked my lawyer tht the F2A category is current and tell him to apply. He told me that the USCIS updated their forms and we can apply after 2 weeks only ?? Is that right ? My wife have to register for her new semester by May 31st and she is going to college just to maintain her status. She is aldy done with her studies!! Can anybody tell me how long we have to wait after we filed for I485 ! I heard tht after biometrics does she still have to go to school or she can just wait for the EAD and prepare for her job interview!! Plz I will be grateful if anybody help me with this !!

As soon as USCIS receives your documents, they will sent you a notice (1-2 weeks), providing that they will be processing your case. Next, you probably get biometrics appointment letter after 2 weeks. Upon the biometrics is done , your wife should check her case online through website: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do to make sure what is going on ( the receipt number is MSCxxxxxxxxxx on the biometric letter). After that, she has 2 options:
1/ Just stay home to wait for EAD, I-131 and Interview day.
2/ Continue maintaining F-1 student status ( If you guys fails the interview, she can keep F1 status to live here longer)
Some people choose option 1, but i think option 2 is better. It had better keep maintaining F1 student status, waiting for EAD, I-131 and Interview day at the same time. When you guys keep Green card in hand, it is too late for her to cancel F1 student status.

Which state are you filing in? Reason is, I did my Biometerics Feb2 and got EAD card March 9, so I wanted to have an idea how far away my interview date is.

The state where i have been filling in is California! I think California and New York are two states where a large number of people are still waiting for their interview and it usually takes 5-6 months or longer. I see some applicators who had filled their documents in December or early January got their interview date or Green card. You would be lucky unless you lived in California and NY

Thanks a lot.... NY seems to be taking a while but it's still within the 5-6 months. At least I can work and travel, so I am ok.
