  • Name change after marriage

I currently have a work authorization card under DACA. I am getting married and will be living in Ohio. I am eligible to file I-130 and I-485 forms but I wanted to file with my new married name. I was going to go to the social security office with our marriage certificate to get a new social security card with my new name. I was, however informed by the DMV in Ohio that my driver's license will have whatever name is on my EAD card which will be my maiden name. So my question is, should I apply for a replacement EAD card under my new married name so I could get a new driver's license and then apply for the adjustment of status. Or should I just get a new social security card, file forms I-130 and I-485 and also file a new I-765 so everything is under my new name?

You may be overcomplicating a simple step -- use of your married name.

Submit your I-130 and I-485, I-765 forms, with support documents, in your married name. Don't attempt yet to change anything with government agencies (SSA, DMV, etc.) until you are issued a new Work Authorization in your married name, and/or the later Green Card. With a new EAD, you can then have your married name registered with SSA and get a new SSN card (same number, though).

So I just fill the forms with my married name and the Marriage Certificate will be enough for USCIS to accept my new name?

Thank you both for your advice. I guess I was just over complicating it.

Hope everything goes well with your interview!
