  • I-485 Part 3. Member of the Communist Party

In Part 3. section C is asking to provide information about every organization the applicant has been affiliated with since the age of 16. It requires to include the name of each organization, location, nature and dates of membership.

My question is: What does "nature" means, and what would be an example of how to answer this if the applicant was a member of the communist party?

    Thank you

Reporting former membership in Communist Party is routine for former Communist-block countries, as well as Vietnam and China. This is understood by USCIS when reviewing N-400 documents. Nature is "political."

      Thank you, Ray

So the " Nature" in this context is the nature of organization (party) , not the nature of the applicant's involment/membership, correct ?

Also, the Part 3. Section C is required to provide a written explanation if the answer is "Yes" to any of the questions. In case of the answer is "Yes" to question #6 (Communist Party membership of former USSR) what would be an explanation, and in what form should be written?

      Thanks

Put "See attachment." On a separate sheet of paper, labeled "Attachment, Section C," Write "During the period **** *** through **** **** **** **, Communist Party membership was expected of anyone apply for school entrance at **** **** **** *, or employment with **** **** **** ."

I once talked with an older Hungarian who fought in WW-II in the Hungarian Army, allied with Germany, and he had to explain why he was fighting in a military force allied with Germany. After the war, he was a policeman, and Communist Party membership was mandatory for his type of police agency.

I talked with a mainland Chinese immigrant who was a member of the Red Guard years ago, and she said is was like being in Boy Scouts (or Girl Scouts) in the U.S., and everybody of her age range were members.
