  • Green Cards Possessing

    Hi,

I would like be guided on the Green Cards.

Suppose if a person is a Permanent Resident (PR) of a different country ( say Singapore etc.) , can he apply for Green card in US, if he/ she is eligible. Is there any restriction or rule that a person can only have one Green card of a country?

    Thanks in advance

    Mr. Rao,

There is no such restriction whatsoever. Specifically, a national of Country A can be a permanent resident of Country B, and still become a a permanent resident of the United States.

That said, it is important to note that being a permanent resident of the United States comes with certain obligations. Abrogating those obligations will result in the loss of United States residency.

    Please read http://www.uscis.govhttps://www.immi...nent-residence

For me, the most critical obligation was the intent to remain living in the United States, even if I moved abroad temporarily for work or to visit family. The second most critical obligation was to remain compliant with state and local criminal laws.

I have since become a citizen of the United States, so that I do not have to worry abaout those things. I can sell my house and take my family to my country of birth to live, or I can be wrongly accused of a crime without fear of deportation. These things meant nothing to me when I first received my green card, but as the years have gone by I decided I wanted that flexibility. You too will be eligible for citizenship after 5 years of permanent residency.
