  • Adjusting staus without a lawyer, how hard is it?

I got my K1 through an immigration lawyer - I am now told that if I want to do adjustment of status, it will cost an extra $3,000 (on top of the money I have already paid him).

Truth is, I have spent everything I have getting into the USA, I don't have that money. If I can't do this with just me and my wife, then I will probably have to return home.

It wouldn't be so bad, but you can't work your first 100 days. It is killing my financial situation and my career.

    All advice welcome.

I did not use a lawyer for adjustment of status, but I am good at reading instructions and filling out forms.

If you do not have any immigration issues (previous overstay, fraud, illegal entry, criminal history, communicable diseases) then I don't really know what the lawyer is good for anyway.

Thanks! Do you by any chance know what needs to be done? Which forms I need etc?
