  • I-864 Part 6 and 7 questions

    Hello all,

I'm sorry if this question has already been asked (i think it has but it didn't 100% help me).

My wife is sponsoring me through adjustment of status as we got married last month. She lived abroad all of her life and only spent a year studying in College in the USA back in 2009. She moved back last July 2014 and have been on and off work, but she never made more than 1.5K a month. She now has a part time job since april but does not meet the poverty guidelines and hasn't filed her tax return for last year and still hasn't filed it.

We have a joint bank account with enough money to meet the poverty guide lines gap * 3. Is that enough?
Also how should we proceed about the tax returns? Do we really need one?

    Thanks!

If you have three times the income shortfall as cash in the bank, you are good.

If she earned less than $10,150 - gross - in all of 2014, she does not need to file a tax return, and she can write an affidavit to that effect.

Many people in her situation pleasantly find out that they are entitled to a refund. It is probably worth the effort in filing the return.
