Hello!
My AoS was approved today, 2 and a half weeks after what I thought was a bad interview. I wanted to share my experience with people who may find themselves in my situation. I vowed to help others even when my ordeal was over with.
Some background information:
-My AoS was based on marriage to a US citizen.
-My husband and I met online on a video game.
-I came here on the visa waiver programme from the UK, visiting my now husband (then boyfriend).
-We had travelled back and forth seeing each other for over 3 years and then spontaneously decided to get married.
The entire point of this post is to encourage people going through this whole process legitimately NOT TO WORRY. I know I read that phrase countless of times when I was doing my own research and never really heeded that advice but I encourage anyone reading this now to definitely plan ahead for the interview but to also know that even if it isn't perfect, it is not the end of the world. We were extremely nervous about not having much primary evidence - we literally had no joint financial documents of any kind, rental agreements, bills, accounts, nothing. This is mostly because we have been living with his in laws since the marriage and thus have no outgoing bills. I also never received a social security number or work permit so was unable to apply for many things. I really expected this to be scrutinized during the interview however we had such an abundance of secondary evidence that it never even came up. Basically, if you are in a real relationship - you will most likely be okay. One thing I advise to practice is the fundamental questions - place of birth of spouse, all given names, date of birth, address, etc. We never tripped up on any of that information and I think it is important. I can go into detail about what was asked if you guys want but I guess that is it for now.
Good luck to you all - my journey is over!
