  • overstay j1 married with a us citizen

    Hello ,
I applied to my green card in June . I haven't received my Employment Authorization yet because USPS and USCIS really messed up with my address, however its approved. However I have a Social Security Number since I was a J1 . SO its real . I always use it and never had any problems. My question is since I am waiting for my work permit to arrive , do I need to change the number of my SSN or can continuing using it .
    Please help !
    Thank you !

No. Your social security number will NOT change.

YOU should however, take it in to your nearest Social Security Administration Office, after you have received your Permanent Resident Card have the conditions on your social security card changed.

Therefore, the system will have you as a permanent residents and not a J1, resident.

Mary is right. Your SSN is yours for life.
