  • I 485 interview

I had i-485 interview on Sep 28 at 9 am. Me and my wife (US citizen), after waiting for about 30 min, the immigration service officer called my name and took us to her office. Before even introducing herself (which I do believe is a professional manner) she just called my name and said “ YOU STAY HERE” and then she took my wife to her office. There she interviewed my wife for about 25min. Then my turn and this time my wife was told to stay out. The ISO interviewed me for about 15 min. The QUESTIONS 1- Confirm your place and date of birth, 2-how do you know each other 3- follow up questions one after the other regarding description of our house, 4-where my wife works.
Regarding my wife’s work I said she runs her own business/as self-employed/ from our house and to this question my wife answered the same like mine but she also added she sometimes work other places related to her business which I did not mention during my interview (I could tell she wasn’t happy).
She was not interested in looking all the evidences we brought including photos and even our IDs at all, she only took all the letters/bills sent to the current address (where we moved after filing all the papers)
Once she done all this the ISO said “I need to review this case this afternoon and you shall wait the answer via mail”.
Even though we are in good faith we are disappointed as all our files were in place.
Is this normal phenomenon?? What should we wait for???? We are so depressed.
    Thanks.

Do not worry. This happens a lot. As long as there's no big red flags you should be fine. Waiting is hard but it will work out.

Hi unchained, no we are still waiting, it's been about 2 weeks now since our interview. According to my lawyer it may take her (the ISO) up to 60 days to decide (after the interview), although he told me I need to contact him after two weeks from now if we don't hear anything by then.
Is your situation similar to mine?

          Regards.

Do you guyz have any red flags? Is there anything u think may have made your case a bit complex?

              Hi Unchained,

Well basically what did the ISO ask us was very few questions(I have mentioned all the questions in my original post). About the red flags, I am not quite sure if she considers the questions regarding my wife's place of work as a red flag (my lawyer told me it is considered as minor). Here was the question....

              where my wife works.
Regarding my wife’s work I said she runs her own business/as self-employed/ from our house and to this question my wife answered the same like mine but she also added she sometimes work other places related to her business which I did not mention during my interview (I could tell ISO wasn’t happy).

But my question is does separating couples happen at the first encounter? (Or can this type of interview be considered as Stokes interview. I assume the stokes is done after you fail at your first interview and lasts for much longer. The ISO spent about 25 min with my wife and 15 min with me). At this point she did take some house bills and car insurance certificate on both names only, she was not interested to see other document such as our photo album. From all the questions available for couples; the only common question for us was " how do you know each other" without any follow up question regarding our relationship.

                      Hi Unchained

I was just navigating through the USCIS (Case status) and noticed that my I-131 was approved on my 1-485 interview date, though my EAD card was delivered ages ago.

                        Your i-131 or i-130?
Thats strange. Did you call USCIS to cross-check?
