did not file i-485 with i-130, do i now have to wait for i-130 approval??

I hope someone can help me figure this out!

My Husband filed i-130 Petition for Alien relative with all the relevant documents and we have received a receipt and conformation that the petition is in process. However we did not file i-485 at the same time, not realizing we could concurrent file them together.
Do I now have to wait until we receive approval and and immigrant visa number or can file i-485 now without a visa number and attach a copy of the receipt?

I'm worried we wont receive approval before my visitor status expires!

You definitely have to wait for the approval
Even your visa expire meanwhile no problem
once you get the approval you can send the i485.
and if your spouse is American,you ok
