Go back to an SSA office and ask them to give you a card without the annotation, or just continue to live with it until you get your Green Card. Either way, your SSN does not change.

It does have that annotation ( "Valid only with DHS authorisation") on it. So how will I proceed after getting my card?

      Rayb,
Thanks for being so helpful. I got my EAD in the mail today. I intend to start working with it until I get my green card. Is my SSN card I got issued as a student still ok to work 40 hours a week despite the fact that I was only able to work 20 hours a week with it as a student? Also, how soon does one get notice for interview date after getting EAD? I got my EAD on January 29th and my priority date is Nov 24th.

      Thanks!

The Adjustment interview date is likely to follow receipt of your EAD by about three more months.

          Rayb,
I've been applying for jobs since I got my EAD. In fact, one of the state jobs I applied to accepts work permit but expressly mentioned that SSN card must not have any annotation. I was at SSA office today and the amiable official told me "no problem" when I told him I came to obliterate the annotation on my SSN card. He collected it, typed into the system for about 5 minutes and then told me to destroy it when I get a new one without an annotation in the mail within 7-10 days. However, everyone keep saying there's a mistake somewhere because I can't get a card without annotation without a green card. What's your take on this? I have a state job deadline to meet next week

Had you applied for your SSN after you received the EAD, it would not have had the annotation (which usually comes with the SSN when apply during the K1 90-day window).

You didn't seem to understand my situation I got my SSN initially when I was doing my masters in Chicago because I worked on campus. That explained the SSN with annotation. Now that I'm married to a USC, I got my work permit and I took it to SSA office to inform them of my upgrade in status. My question is: will the annotation be erased or not?

Right, I had no idea of the visa you started with, but the annotated SSN is common to other nonimmigrant visas (such as K1) and the limitations are the same. My original report still holds...that when basis of an SSN is an EAD, the SSN is issued without the annotation, or changed to remove the annotation.
