I am on H1B and got laid off last Friday.
I got married in Oct 2005 to my wife, who is a US Citizen. I haven't applied for green card yet and am going to start the process now through her.
Instead of my transfering my H1B to another company in order to land a job, I am planning to go through the green card. In that case, how soon do I become eligible to work? Upon receipt from USCIS on my I-485 Filing or after getting the EAD etc.? Can some one please advise?
The need of the hour is to start working ASAP and hence, any quick way to approach the issue will be of immense help. I have some offers already but they are hesitant on transfering H1B.
BTW, I live in San Francisco, if that has any impact on the processing time.
