Hi everyone,
I told myself that I would share my experience once I would get my greencard and I just did yesterday!
For those of you still going thru the process, each case is different but most likely there isn't really much you can do, so just be patient!!
We got married in May 2014 and filed right away, my husband was a resident and my visa was about to expire, the lawyer said it would work as long as my visa was still good by The time they would get the application. It didn't work! They approved the i130 in November and sent the case for consular proceeding and at this time I was expecting the worse since I could not leave the country! My husband applied for citizenship June 2014 had interview February 2015, wasn't called in for the ceremony until August! Tip: if you are in a rush talk to your congressman!! As soon as the lawyer called him they scheduled my husband for oath ceremony, immigration actually called him and told him it would be the following week.
So we finally filed for my greencard in August 2015, got request for initial evidence because my husband changed his first name and they were confused about who was who. But we clarified that and went for fingerprinting in September, got my work permit in November and interview was March 2nd in NYC.
We got there late was scheduled for 8am didn't check it until 8h34, got called in right away my lawyer was in the bathroom my husband was parking the car! The officer was very nice just told me to knock once I was ready. My husband finally got there at 9am, the interview didn't last longer than 10min. She went thru the application yes or no questions. Asked me to say my husband's name before he changed it. Asked my husband if he knew my phone number. Asked him if I'm employed. Asked me if he is employed. Asked for stuff together I gave her car insurance car registration, health insurance. Had more she said that was enough: didn't ask for pictures. Said she had to request the i130 file and then she would approve the case. Apparently my i130 file was in another state since the first time we filed. We said we were planning on traveling in the summer she said she couldn't guarantee anything. So our lawyer went and spoke to the supervisor who told her that he would expedite the case otherwise it would take 8-10 weeks! What he did was approve the case on the very same day, and I got my greencard 6 days later. Happy ending!!
Immigration journey is very stressful it tests the limits of your patience... I would say get a lawyer, they might just save your day!
