  • Called in for stokes interview!!

    Hi there,

I filed for AOS last year June without a lawyer. I submitted all the necessary paperwork. Got called in for interview March 7th my IO asked my husband questions like my name, where I was born, details of our relationship, my parents name. She asked my name, when I came into the country & the standard yes/no questions. We showed original documents, photos & a lease* agreement. My husband is an authorized user on my credit card so I submitted a letter from the bank detailing this (unfortunately didn't bring bank statements & my husband wasn't carrying his card). My IO took my I-94, the lease agreement & the letter from the bank.

I just got a notice for stokes interview. I'm wondering why would we be called in? Also please note, I married my husband last April & we have been together since 2012.

    I appreciate your help.

No one here will be able to tell you the specific reason you have been called in for a second interview. They might just be working on their intuition that something isn't quite write or you simply failed to convince them that you are a genuine couple.. (The nerve of some people!)
It is your responsibility to expel any doubts of the reason for your marriage. There are quite a few resources online that may assist you such as the process itself (separate interviews for you and spouse, it being taped etc) the type of questions that may be posed. Basically do your homework as it will be a detailed affair for sure and you need to be convincing to pass.

I would hazard a guess that having just married in April you applied for AOS within 2 months which will have pricked their ears maybe? That plus you might not have had enough evidence of your courtship prior which goes back to 2012.

Research, then research some more and gather as many types of questions that may come up and then practice the responses!
Trust me the questions asked would flummox many married couples who have been together years!!
Don't be too laxidasical about it as remember you are the ones who need to do the convincing.

    Good luck!

Thank you for this!!! I actually did apply for aos withing 2 months of my marriage. Also lack of evidence could be another reason. However, my relationship is 100% real & there really isn't anything that we don't know about each other! That being said I'm doing as much research as possible.

Thank you so much for this!!! I did actually apply for aos within a couple of months after I married. Also we may not have submitted enough evidence, that being said my marriage is 100% real! We pretty much know everything about each other, I've been doing A LOT of research & going over the details over our relationship. Crossing my fingers that I'm approved!!!

The majority of marriages are genuine so I'm sure you will be fine. There are some websites that get you to pay for the questions that are asked at such interviews but with a little more digging you will find quite a lot of things for free. A little perseverance and you will be well equipped to handle the situation.
I would hazard a guess as you were only married for a couple of months before your AOS application you may not have had enough evidence gathered for their liking. As its been a while now take along any new evidence that demonstrates your relationship is solid.
As it is quite a serious process you might want to consult a lawyer too.
It would be great if you return to the forum to inform the community of your experience and any advice.
          Thanks
