  • USPS Lost Green Card?

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to see if anyone had the experience of USPS losing their green card. My husband had his permanent resident application approved on March 11, 2016, and received his I-797 welcome notice about 5 days later. USPS was supposed to deliver the green card on March 19, 2016 by 2-day Priority mail, but so far, nothing. The tracking says that it is "in transit" but it has been in transit for about 4 days now. I've called various post offices and USPS customer service, but no one knows where the green card is. Mind you, the distribution center that it left on March 18 is only about 10 miles from our home.
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone had this experience? I know we may have to file the I-90 to get a replacement card, but it would be extremely irritating since the USPS potentially lost our card.

Learn about CIS Ombudsman’s processes, how to request case assistance, how we process your request, and topics related to USCIS.

As a starting point. There are other sites detailing how you might possibly be able to have the I-90 fee ($450 includes potential new bio fee) waived.

Seems very very unfair that people are penalised for NEVER having received their cards! Whose to say it's not unscrupulous individuals committing mail fraud by stealing the card before it gets to you. If you lose it then of course that is a different matter.

So sorry to hear about this! Just wondering if you ever got it resolved?

Unfortunately not...USPS can't find it anywhere! We've since filed the I-90 form but it could be months before we get the new card.

****! That is really, REALLY frustrating. I hope the Boston USPS doesn't lose ours too.

Have you received the replacement card? If so, how long did it take after filing I-90?

I'm having a bit of the same fear. Received the notification that the card was mailed on November 1, 2016, but so far nothing in the mail. I didn't have any information about 2-day Priority or tracking, though. Did they give you a tracking number?

Sorry to hear about your experiences. You should make an infopass appointment and get a stamp in your passport until the matter gets resolved.

Have you found your green card? Same story here in Oct 2017, USPS claimed that our green card packages were LOST in transit. Why do they want to STEAL our green card? Terrible black market system.

                      Lost card nightmare

Wow what a nightmare. I was worried about that too. I just received mine after it being mailed on the 24th. Both the card and the acceptance letter for 485 arrived on the same day. So no correlation there. Also, no tracking numbers were given. But I heard you can get one if you can contact an agent at USCIS. I tried, but could not navigate the phone system to get to a human.
Don't worry soon your struggles will come to an end.

So far nothing update on our cards. They must be stolen. Terrible system can't believe government entity use USPS to ship such important documents despite there are so many similar stolen cases and they decided to change nothing. USPS hold no responsibility, same with USCIS. I am more worried about identity theft than getting the new cards.

I agree, I think they should have you go pick them up at the office. Even if it could be quite far for some people. At least you know they are safe. Or at least send them with tracking. It's ridiculous.
