  • i130 and i485 question for mother currently in US

    Hi,
23yo US citizen here. quick question about my application for my mother's green card.
She is currently here with me in the states, (arrived in december) and 2 weeks ago we decided to apply for her residency. Since we are getting charged crazily (2k bucks) from many attorneys and lawyers to fill it, I figured I will myself. So I decided to send in the i130 first however I recently figured it that I could have sent the i130 and i485 at the same time... since I already sent the i130 alone (and got the receipt) is it too late to send the i485? or should I wait until the i130 gets approved? She can legally stay here until June (visa wise) after which she is required to return to Peru, she has a regular visitor visa. Thanks in advance!

It's a real shame these lawyers were not able to guide you in even the basics in terms of the options you have at your disposal.
For relatively straight forward cases I don't think a legal representative is required, (only in more complicated cases such as criminal history, overstay, entering illegally etc.)

I think you now do have to wait until the I-130 is approved before you can move on to the next step. have a look throughout the forum as their may have been others in a similar situation.

I was told that you could file them individually or together. If you file them together, the process is less lengthy. Wait until you get your i130 approval and then move forward with i485. I also file my documents by my self; not a hard task. Just make sure you read the instructions carefully.
