I have been meaning to post on here for the last couple of months now but never got around to it. This site helped me a lot during my immigration process so I wanted to give back.
I married my American wife in August and I put my papers in for adjustment of status in September... so could look dodgy. We have a daughter together and she was 4 months at the time. I did the process myself without the aid of a lawyer. My papers got rejected 2 times because were not filled out properly but finally got accepted in the middle of November. I was able to get my fingerprints done before as my I-765 didn't get rejected but all the others did until November. I received my EAD 2 days before Christmas and I had my interview at the end of January. My interview lasted 5 minutes and I got accepted. Was the easiest thing ever. My wife even got a question wrong about where we lived but laughed it off as she was nervous.
They can sense if you are a couple or not. You can tell if 2 people are lying or not. I started dating my wife 6 years ago at the start of college and have been together ever since. We have the same interests and we have good banter between each other. The woman interviewing us could tell that we were in a relationship. I also have a hunch that they film you in the waiting room, and if that is the case, then not many people would get accepted. We were the only people that were joking about and looked like we were in a relationship. Other people didn't even talk or acknowledge each other.
The best advice I can give is to be yourself and don't be afraid to be yourself. You might get a few things wrong but don't change who you are for this interview... it won't go well if you do that. Don't be nervous about the interview either because it is no where near as bad as you will think. The woman that interviews us was extremely nice but you can tell she would be able to sniff bullcrap in a second.
Good luck!
