  • Green Card Question!

    Hi!

Upon winning a Green Card.. Do I HAVE to move immediately, or can I go trough the process and eventually move there in a few like 5+ years??

    Do you know??

    Kindly,
    Rik

Win one? Through the diversity lottery? I think the fact you apply means you are ready to make a commitment to moving soon.
For those adjusting status there is the premise if using the GC straight away. If you are outside of the country there will be a set time to move (6 months to a year?). Failure to become a permanent resident (meaning the US becomes your primary place of residence) usually means the USCIS deems you to have abandoned your status and you are relinquishing your GC. some circumstances allow you to postpone the timeframe but there are specific reasons for doing so and paperwork to file I think.
