  • Processing date passed

So we filed my wifes Adjustment of status package back in August 26 2015 at the Chicago location. We attended the interview on January 7th 2016. Since then we have not had any updates to our case and when checking processing times online, they have processed all 485s up through September 11 2015. Throughout the process we have never received an RFE, our interview went very well. I called USCIS yesterday hoping to findout the status or atleast an update to our case that I requested on April 8th by submitting a Case Inquiry with no success. Online our case shows USCIS replied to our Inquiry but I never received anything. The officer on the phone, supposedly 2nd level couldnt tell me anything except that he didnt see anything wrong with our case and that even though our processing date has passed that sometimes it takes longer then expect.

TO me, it doesnt make sense that they say theyved processed applications up through Sep 11th, yet no update to our case and the officer says he sees no problems with our case. To me, it sounds like someone is sleeping on the job, they lost our application somewhere on the officers desk or something is wrong with our application that they have to further investigate. However, no RFEs throughout the whole process so clearly we submitted a wealth of information.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Consider yourself lucky. We filed July 28th. Haven't even had the interview yet. Filed an inquiry in April and was told we would know something within 30 days. That passed without an answer. Had to file a second inquiry...

              Jff,

We are in Missouri and it has been 9 months since they have received our documents and nothing regarding interview yet. We called we had inquiry open for our case and all they told us was "Wait.". At this point we don't even think that anything is helping speed up the process and we are just waiting hoping for a letter soon.

I wonder if Missouri is the bottleneck. We mailed our packet to Chicago. The people we talked to at USCIS said it then got sent to St Louis.

It could be if they sent your package here in St. Louis, apparently they are way behind for some reason, but I wonder why your docs will be here, and not where your local office is to schedule an interview? Have you tried calling your local office?

Not sure why, but it's pretty annoying that we had to send it to Chicago only for them to send it to St Louis, then they say Indianapolis will be contacting us. Terrible service. No accountability. Our life is on hold because of them. Not sure where to find a direct phone number for them.

We are submitting an I131 tomorrow. Should have done so originally, but we figured the process would be done by now.

                      Jff,

You are right, we had submitted for I131 and he had a travel doc valid for a year, however you should read the back of the document as well as the sheet of paper that comes with it. We were thinking to travel with his travel doc, but after we read everything they sent us, we decided to wait for the interview. I think you guys should be hearing something soon for a date. Good Luck.

Thanks. I hope so. Anyhow, as it may be awhile before getting either the I131 or the green card, would you mind sharing what the paperwork said that made you decide to wait? Just curious. My wife, the applicant, is eager to go home to visit her family, but if there are any possible issues we will probably end up waiting as well.

                          Jff,

I don't remember the exact sentences I read, but the whole thing stated something like they grant you permission to leave the country and board a plane to the States on your way back, however they do not grant you acceptance at USA airport, and if they decide to send you back they will, because the travel document does not grant you any status. So when we read it, we spoke to our lawyer and she agreed also to have him wait before leaving the country since he's been here for such a long time, and his grandparent passed even before the documents were send sadly. So we are waiting and put all of our plans on hold for now. I hope they speed up the process for all of us waiting out there.

Thank you. We will pay close attention and carefully consider everything. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point and the process gets going again as it should.
