  • Post OPT / adjustment of status?

    Hi all,

Me and my American partner got married yesterday (May 27th).

I am currently reaching the end of my year long OPT (set for June 14th) which I did post a MFA, on a F1 visa.

My current drivers license, EAD card and - as far as I can tell - my I-20 all expire on June 14th.
The only unexpired legal document which I will have post June 14th is my passport.

We have started filling out the several forms we need to submit (I-130; I-485; I-693; I-765; I-864 etc.) but have not submitted any of these yet...

We live in LA, CA and are planning to fly up to Seattle in late June.
Considering my status, will we be able to do so?

As long as it's not out of the country you going then you should be ok to fly to Seattle. Make sure you include the form so you can receive text and email once your applications are accepted.

Congratulations to you and your partner! Make sure you look at the forms a few times before sending your package, try to put as much Bona fide proof of the Marriage. Now as for flying I don't know.. That is one thing i never did because I was always afraid, even with my passport, but have heard many people flying inside the country without problems. best of luck

I think you need a valid ID in order to travel within the USA, because the airport they match ur ID to your flight ticket

I'm in the same situation. I came to the US on an F1 visa in 2013 and completed graduate studies last year. My OPT expires in August. My partner and I got married in early May, and we filed all the necessary documents a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had any trouble travelling within the US, but I wouldn't venture out of the US if I were you unless advance parole has been granted, especially after the expiration of all your F1 documents as you won't have a "status".
