  • Need advice... Please help!

Hoping to hear from those with similar experience before I start AOS.

I am currently on F-1 visa and will graduate this December (visa is good until June 2017). Fiance is active duty military and we are planning to get married this summer. He just got moved to NY, and my university is down in SC. Will living apart for a semester be an issue with interview, medical examination, etc.? Does anyone know if the process is quicker for military marriages? How long does it typically take to get work authorization and travel authorization?

no, the process is the same. the only thing that is different is at the money required=affidavit of support

The military staus of your partner does not change times. It only reduces the income threshold you must demonstrate.
Congratulations on the marriage. Be sure to get at least 2 extra copies of the record/certificate of marriage.
Not living together does not disquilify you for an adjustment of status, as long as if you are able to explain why. If you can demosntrate that you are still studying on SC and he is deployed to NY (or overseas for that matter), then you will have no problem.

The work authorization (EAD) and abroad travel permit (advanced parole) take +- 3 months since they receive the aplication. I got mine 84 days after they received the documentation. Be aware that once you come back into the US with the advanced parole card you will spend a much longer immigration process at your port of entry (ie. airport) than what you should have experienced with the F1 visa.

      All the best of lucks!
