  • I-485 Help/Advice

We submitted our I-485 back in October. On the USCIS website, it says that the fingerprint fee was received on October 29th, 2015 and has not been updated since that point. We filed an inquiry after the 6 month wait period and received a form letter saying that our case was taking additional time due to the need to review additional documents (this read like a form letter to me). It's now going on for 8 months and we are looking at having to cancel our vacation back to Canada for fear of what would happen if we "abandoned" our application.

It's very frustrating to think that we have to give up our vacation plans to visit family because as soon as we drive into Canada, USCIS will take it as a sign that we are not interested in the Green Cards anymore.

I have also been offered a job at another US University and have no idea what accepting the position if the green cards aren't in place will mean for my case.

Any advice? Anything at all that can be done to move the process along. I heard something about filing a court petition that would force a lower court to take action if it is outside of the normal processing time. Anyone hear anything similar?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure it's employment, EB1 Outstanding Professors and Researchers, but not positive
