  • Surname Change At Marriage and I-485 Application

My wife arrived in the US earlier this summer on a K-1 visa and agreed to take my surname. We got her a Social Security card that has her maiden name. We then got married with the marriage certificate specifying her surname had become mine. We recently filed her I-485 - on all the supporting documentation (except the marriage certificate, of course), we used her maiden name so that there was no confusion as to the identity of the person applying. We noted this on the cover letter sent with the I-485.

Now we're a bit worried for a couple reasons. Firstly, whether her green card will be issued with her maiden or married name. And secondly, we're concerned as to whether it would be a good idea to go to the Social Security office to change her surname prior to the green card being issued.

For those in the know about this kind of thing, what advice would you give? Thanks in advance for your help.
