Assets instead of income for sponsor? Can i use my primary residence?

So I am the sponsor for my husband. When I was previously divorced i had never worked but got a decent amount of cash. However my bank cash has now dipped to only 50,000. I was a stay at home mom for 20 years but have begun my career as a real estate agent, however that is slow going right now for a new person like me. My lawyer seemed to think I couldn't use my house, which I own outright and is worth at least $350,000. Any clarity on that? I dont want to get denied, but like I said, my income is spotty right now because it takes about a year to get making money, and my husband could work but not legally. Now I just got my notice for my last 12 months bank statements. and i don't have 3x the poverty level in there for my family of 3 (now 4 with my husband)
