  • A question about SSN after Biometrics!

I did my biometrics and filed my paper two months ago. I'm waiting for my work permit to be issued. My question is, can I apply for SSN with the notification notice or I should wait?

If I should wait for something? When is the best time to apply for SSN?

    Thanks.

Social Security Administration would require you to have atleast a proof of legal permit to work before assigning you the SSN. So based on my own experience, you would only be eligible to apply for SSN once you've received your EAD. So wait a few more weeks to receive that and then you can apply.

My husband and I walked into the ACS where he was able to take his fingerprints today without a biometrics appointment letter. I guess it's due to the fact that I am a veteran (petitioner), and veterans don't need an appointment. I've recently found this out. Had I known about earlier we would have taken a trip to the ACS to be fingerprinted. We wasted about two months waiting for the biometric letter. But at any rate, everyone was nice and we were told that once we receive the EAD then my husband can apply for his SSN.

You will need to wait until you receive your EAD then apply for your SSN. That's what was told to my husband and myself today at the ACS.
