  • F1 Student Got married to a U.S. citizen trying to get a SSN asap.

    Hi, everyone.

I (F1 Student) got married to my husband (U.S. citizen) on June 15. And I filed I-485 and based on that I also filed I-765 on July 25th. At the end of August 25, I received a receipt notice saying that the are working on both of my cases. On Sep 13 I received an "Appointment Notice" for my biometerics, and on Sep 29, I went to the location have my biometrics taken. however, in the beginning of Oct, I received a letter "request for initial evidence (I-485)" on Oct 25, USCIS have received my respones.

And right now my I-765 application is been processing for 71 days but it is still within the "normal processing time". And I called USCIS asking them about when I will be able to receive my work authorization card, and they said because my case is still pending within the "normal processing time" so I still need to wait until after the 75 days time period, and they also said I should be able to get something by November 8.

Can anyone tell me, do I need to wait till I received the actual work authorization card in order for me to go to Social Security office to get my SSN, or I can get my SSN before the actual card comes in? like I can print out the email or something so that I can get my SSN asap, or is there any other way I can do so?

Nothing else you can do. You have to wait until you get your actual working permit to go get a Social security card.
By the 90th day is when you call USCIS to let them know you have not received the card. Or at least that's what I did

Thank you for the responding. I have one more question.

when you go to social security office with the actual work permit card, can you just get your SSN right away at social security office or do you have to wait till they mail it to you?

Why the hurry? People have waited years and sometimes even over a decade to get their green card...

I know, I wasn't wanted my green card so badly. I just wanted to have my EAD in order to get my SSN asap. Because I went to an interview, and the company I went to interview they really like me, and they wanted to offer me a job, but I don't have either EAD or my SSN. And I do not want to lose this opportunity.

Depends on each state. All I can tell you is it takes time to get a SS card as well, they will mail it to you. So be patient, my friend that is all you can do, be patient with the WHOLE process.
