  • how to get joint accounts?

How do you get joint accounts together if you have no social security number? Even utility bills are difficult to put on both names because they required a Social Security number. Only the electric bill company whas the only one that put my name on it. With the utility bill I Opened up a joint bank account with my husband. that's all I have utility bills and a joint bank account statements. Is there any other accounts we can join together without Social Security number? I submit already my papers but for the interview I need some more I think.

I am not sure why you do not have a social security # or at least a TIN? It appears you are married to a U.S. citizen and you opened a joint bank account? If you can clarify your status and what interview you are referring too, I can try and advise with more detail.

This is my opinion and not legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.

2 photo IDs and proof of residency

      Hi,
I had the same problem with the joint accounts. The first time we went to the bank's branch (Chase) the person who assisted us told us that there's no need to have a SSN as long as you have 2 IDs with your picture and at least one of them has to show your address. In my case I showed my passport and ID card (got it at DMV). Unfortunately, my ID Card has my married name, so both ID's names didn't match. The bank representative told us that some people also bring a "Consular Matricula" (my country still doesn't emit them) so basically I needed something else.
After trying at a different branch, a very helpful lady, gave us the idea to bring the Leasing Agreement with my maiden name on it and show that as a proof of residency. I used that document along with my passport and visa (B1/B2) to create a joint account with my husband.
We recently sent my AOS package filled concurrently with the I-130. And as proof of joint accounts we sent our most recent bank statement which had both of our names on it.
(I still don't know if what we attached will be valid as proof)
      Hope it helps.
